An Hour With Joe Brown

The Ed Doolan Interviews was a long running series that was originally broadcasted on BBC Midlands Radio out of Birmingham’s Pebble Mill Studios. Much of the back-catalogue of interviews is currently being rebroadcasted on the BBC Radio 4 Extra digital channel and the BBC Radio Online iPlayer.
I suspect this particular radio interview with JOE BROWN was done sometime during 2008 – 09, ostensibly to mark his 50th anniversary in show business. The program content is made up of a mish-mash of Q & A segments interspersed with recordings. However, what does come across in the interview is Joe Brown’s take-life-as-it-comes attitude. Even after all these years and now at the age of 70, Joe Brown’s outlook is still firmly routed in his economic precarious working class roots of London's East-End. To my ears, his speech patterns still retain the distinctive “chirpy cockney” sound that is peculiar to that part of London.
