Known for her virtuosity on the Hammond organ, Cherry Wainer was more influenced by Jimmy Smith than that of a female Liberace she was sometimes erroneously billed as.

Cherry Wainer and her drummer husband Don Stoner were prominent members of Lord Rockingham’s XI, the instrumental mainstay of British TV’s Oh Boy!, during the late 1950s.

Listen to the lady herself talking about those Oh Boy! days for BBC 4’s 50s Britannia documentary …

Don Stoner died in 1977.
