There's a few variables. How many in your band, How long are you to play, What market are you in, location of event, etc....? Is the wedding / Bar Mitzvah for a friend? These are some of the things I take into consideration when setting a price for such an event.

5 piece band doing pop/rock from '60s through current; this is for a friend's son's BM, and we will be driving from Cleveland down to Columbus for the gig, just for the day. I figure we would do three long sets, about an hour each, plus we will get fed. 8)

Thanks, Brian, that is somewhat useful, but I have a feeling a lot of events oriented bands do not follow the MU guidelines these days.

Is $1000 out of line to charge for the type of event we will be doing?

No it's not out of line IMO Jeff. Btw the MU scale is usually looked upon as the minimum. I have never worked for scale in my entire life.

I would agree, especially given the travel involved (270 miles round trip), that this is not out of line at all.

Since it's for a friend, $1000 would be a good price. Add about half again that amount for a non-relation.

Don't forget to ask for mileage and meals.

Since this is for a friend, we will forgo the mileage, but you can certainly bet the house that we will get fed and fed well. 8)

Darn, would have been a sweet gig I'm sure. Better luck next time.
