Lot's of you people are undoubtably aware of Joe Boyd. I'd heard lots of the music he produced without being aware of his importance to it. A friend of mine loaned me "Joe Boyd White Bicycles: Making Music in the 1960s (2006)."

From this book I've learned that Boyd was a music producer and manager who began his career in Boston self-promoting concerts by Lonnie Johnson and rural blues artists, leading to work with George Wein, including doing the sound for Bob Dylan's 1965 Newport festival set. After promoting folk and blues shows in England, Boyd was a founder of the UFO club in London, produced Pink Floyd's first single and went on to manage and produce the Fairport Convention. I'd been discovering Sandy Denny's music and the Fairport Convention anyway, so it is nice to gain some more knowledge about her and the band. I hadn't realized Boyd's importance as the producer and promoter of Nick Drake, the Incredible String Band, Maria and Geoff Muldaur.

One of the favorite things I've heard from reading the book is the South African Jazz of Chris McGregor and the Blue Notes:
