How do YOU play a G chord?

Post by jdogric12 »

Hey gang.

Just curious, let's say, with no consideration for what chord comes next or before, in general, on an average day, how would you position your fingers for a G chord?

Happy voting! J

Now, which fingers do you use? I was told a long time ago that I do it wrong because I use my index, middle and ring finger to fret shape #2 above. Being the obstinate punk that I am, I still do it that way.

Like Sheena, I often use the barre chord. I play more open chords since I started playing Rickenbackers. :D

Two variants (320003 — index, middle and ring finger albeit i was told it was wrong — and bar chord) depending on the mood i am in. So i cannot choose one and only.

Always go with the 320033 unless something immovable dictates otherwise.

I use three of the aformentioned chords depending on the sound I need. They each have their place, their reason for being!

Normally 320003 (using 1st, 2nd and pinkie) but if I want more 'oomph' I go to 320033 - hence the use of the pinkie in the standard configuration. I generally use a barre if I'm coming from a barre.

Hmmmm....... what time does the barre open hereabouts???

I always mute out the B on the A string, and leave the B string open.

32OO33, unless I'm playing "Walk, Don't Run", when it's 355433.

I use all three, but I really like the sound of the open G with the added high D.

I usually use the 320003 with ring finger on fret3, string 6; middle finger on string 5, fret 2; and pinky on fret 3, string 1, except when I'm playing "Chimes of Freedom." Then I'll use the 320033 form so I can get that great open fifth sound.
