for the very best players on this site ...this is for you

Post by longhouse »

I'm posting these here because this is worthy of discussion beyond The Others. :D

This was shot by my friend Ela (who sat on the floor next to me) at a very special and exclusive performance by the John Jorgenson Quintet. The show took place a few nights ago at a tiny cafe I've played myself (I christened the new PA!).

Call it gyspy jazz, gypsy swing, or whatever you like. This was one of the most breathtaking displays of musicianship I've ever seen.

This one is just as good:

Noel: Thanks for this gift. A book could be written about these two performances. One of the most entertaining performances I have seen in a long time.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

While the strength of the technique, musicianship, precision, and timing were clearly apparent, the lessons I took home were more about passion and love for the instrument.

A wonderful woman in the audience told me that half of her enjoyment came from watching MY FACE (!!!), noting what she called pure joy.

John Jorgenson played with utmost reverence for the past and for the instrument, but also infused degrees of humor, playfulness, and abandon in his music. I may never play with the panache of J.J., but I have been inspired to worked even harder at what I do.

It's funny... I have fairly fast hands -but man, not that fast!
