Your musical influences?

Kind of a flared and massive post, but maybe it should be your Ricky influences?!
There is simply not enough room for the "influences" and "anti-influences" (both static and dynamic) for me.

But I will say, Harrison, (specifically footage from HDN). Peter Buck, (from certain REM clips and televised concerts) and then live seeing the pre-tele Jim Babjak having such an aggressive tasteful sound.

I may be atypical. For me, playing Rickenbackers doesn't have alot to do with what my guitar influences played. I have a list of things I want out of a guitar and Rickenbackers deliver. I perfer single coil pick ups. 24 1/2" scale and set necks. Add to that great feel, cool looks and (at least when I bought mine) rock bottom price and you've got yourself a winner. As an extra bonus, by playing a Rickenbacker, I am associating myself with a company that has a long history of responsible business practices and resource management.

I think their "Opposite song" is unquestionably equal in brilliance to The Rutles "I must be in love". I do observe that The Rutles/Innes carefully & clearly steer toward "Love" rather than stay on the "opposite/antonym" theme as the Muppets do.

The Who (Pete, lead/rhythm; John, bass ... it was Pete that 'introduced' me to movable chord patterns and open string configurations)
Creedence Clearwater Revival (John, lead; Tom, rhythm - one of the most underrated rhythm guitarists, IMO)

One real influence for me, beyond and before the bands I listed, was my friend Richard Bragg. He was a fantastic all-round, multi-instrument musician, and hanging around him made me want to buy a guitar and learn how to play (which I did in 1967). I regret having lost contact with him over the years.

These are the most improtant influences for me, I think. Right now I could also name R.E.M. and Coldplay, who are - together with The Nits - my favorites among current bands. There have been a lot of other influences in the past, of course: Brix Smith, Jan Akkerman and Focus, Garbage, New Model Army, Salad, Siouxsie & The Banshees, Pete Townshend, The Strokes, Sex Pistols, Barney Kessel, Ludwig van Beethoven, Kraftwerk ... there is a lot of good music in very different styles.
