I'm gonna try to keep this down to four people/influences like Jake!!

Mike Bloomfield - Simply amazing. Transitioned from Butterfield to Dylan to Eelectric Flag so smoothly. A guitar force.
Pete Townsend and the boys - Their musical backgrounds as kids (especially Pete and John) combined with the raw talent of Keith and Roger had them doing things in Rock music no one even thought of and they were still in their teens!
Campbell/Petty - Quite a team... and they seem to have so much fun playing. Petty is an amazing rythm player.
Santana - Driving beats, intensity, innovation and one of the nicest mega-stars around


And Roger McGuinn floats in there pretty prominently as well. Innovator extraordinaire!

Nice topic.

Beatles, of course. Dmitri Shostakowitch, The Who, the '60s in general, English music hall, French vocalise a la Piaf, et al. Mid- to Late-'70s Punk. The Style Council. Aztec Camera. The Smiths. The Lightning Seeds, et al. Anything and everything that makes me smile.

Lennon, Lennon and Lennon. - For some rough sounding rhythm things.

After that Harrison. He did so nice, filigreed things with the chords, garnished with a very special timing!

I think, that's enough for practicing the next years.
I try to play my own style, based on their techniques but avoiding to sound similar.

Strange: A friend told me sometimes I sound like the Stones but never like the Beatles. Together with our bassist I created already some Chili Peppers sound, funny.
The result of my guitar play is close to the way Kasabian sounds live. I know them since a few month, but sound like them since years.


The rest is what I pick up on the way. - If there is a nice song I try to play it, old and actual things.

I like this thread, and I'm gonna post even though it's a little old

I listen to any rock and roll music, with very few exceptions (I really don't like Jefferson Airplane/Starship)

The reason I play guitar is The Beatles..When I was 5, my favorite movies were A Hard Day's Night and Help!, but I always wanted to be Ringo. When I was 9, I saw my first concert: Ringo! So, I went home, got out my old acoustic given to me by my uncle, and started learning to play.

Oddly enough, even though the Beatles are my favorite band, I don't sound much like them when I play lead. It's somewhere in between Carlos Santana and Frank Zappa, which is fun, but i'm looking to expand my playing style to include Beatles type influences.

My rhythm playing is modeled on Pete Townshend, at least on acoustic, but I don't play much rhythm on electric.

You can't copy The Beatles because you can't copy MAGIC.
