Yes, we were down (too) for 6 hours...

Post by gibsonlp »

While most of you guys were sleeping, the server was down...

Apparently 1and1, our hosting company, decided to have maintenance performed (on which they "forgot" to tell the customers...).
The server was unavailable since around 23:45 EDT to 5:20 EDT...

Sorry for the mess...
So long and thanks for all the fish!

I have been using them for around 3 years, they provide excellent dedicated server service for a decent price as well as they are the only providor that offers serial access over ssh to the machine which is a great bonus.
The only downsize is that when you call their technical support you are talking to a nice lady in India who is thousands of miles away from the servers farm.
So long and thanks for all the fish!

Oddly enough, both this site and the RIC corporate site were down at the same time last night ... talk about a panic attack!

Shouldn't that be 1+1=10? :)

When I did a traceroute last night I got to 3 oneandone servers, then nothing but timeouts. It was the rockfour.com server that wouldn't respond. Interestingly, I could always reach the RIC server, but their forum interface was not working either. I had visions of diabolical plots against the Rickenbacker nation!

I am glad I was not alone in my panic attack.

Yup, Rickenbacker.com seem to have issues with their database, not the server itself.
What we had was that our server was simply disconnected from the network along with the entire row of racks in 1and1's hosting facility. This is why your traceroute failed.

And again... 1.5 hours this time... Seem to be related to yesterday's problem... :|
At least this time their support immediately told me there is a problem with their network instead of just opening a support case...
