Re: I NEED TO MAKE IT OFFICIAL

Post by libratune »

Whenever I see the term "relicing," I hear it in my head as "relishing," pronouncing the "c" like the "c" in "delicious." Yark!

Therefore, every time I see the "r" word, I think that it needs a different 1) spelling or presentation, or 2) to be extinguished from the English language as applied to artificially aged musical instruments.

PW has addressed the spelling issue.

I agree with Paul A. that, because this is a "jargon" term, "relic-ing" is an appropriate alternative, and perhaps always in quotes, because it is such a moronic concept to be applied to a piece of wood. The formal definition: "A relic is an object or a personal item of religious significance, carefully preserved with an air of veneration as a tangible memorial." For most humans, this definition would not apply to an electric guitar -- depending, of course, on your definition of "religious significance."

The extinguishment of this term from the lingua franca is out of my control, but why not just use "aging"? Examples: He aged his new Fender by dragging it through the gravel. He is aging his new Fender guitar with two screwdrivers, a belt sander and a pocket lighter.

As far as "mic" goes, in my head that shows up as "mick." So I don't get along with that one either, though it is even more prevalent and hard to avoid than "relic." Then again, "mic" doesn't have such a glaringly inappropriate alternate definition.

As you were.

Can the site software be tweaked to not allow the word "relic" or any of it's forms to be shown? Lol. It could show up as "****" or "*****'d" or something. =)

Also, something should be done when a poster tries to call his/her instrument a "ricky". ha

Oh come on now. If we change the site software to filter out all of those terms, how could we have any fun deriding the users of such terms...
