Poor old 481 humbuckers. Can they live again?

I've owned and loved my '76 481 for 27 years but slowly the humbuckers have been losing their voice. Has anybody considered renovating these or could it be time for a repro scratch plate and single coils?

+1. You might want to have this thread moved to the proper section as this one is technical issues for the forum, itself, not general questions.

If they have been getting quiet it would suggest they are degaussing. Now the ferrite magnets used on hi-gains are not prone to doing this.
It suggests that the magnets may be Alnico.
Alnico is not hard to regauss if you know what you are doing.

I believe John Hall designed these pickups, perhaps he will chip in here and tell us if the magnets can be regaussed..

Eden.

I was hoping you wouldn't bring him in to this. I've never heard his stuff but I think I bought it before he was born!?

He's referring to a member here, not the guitarist.

In case that flew over any heads, Peter thought that Rich was referring to Sergio, the guitarist for Kasbian, who is the (only?) most prolific pro-musician user of 480/1 guitars.

Sergio (Silva) is very good at what he does, but there are many folks Stateside who can fix your pickups too. Shops like Lindy Fralin's and Seymour Duncan's, plus a host of other small-time pickup winders who would certainly welcome your business.

Like forumite Mark Walker, for one.

I think you have my address, Mark, the check is very much appreciated.

Does Mark do all pickups? I thought horseshoes were his specialty/preference...
