TIME CAPSULE LAP STEEL
It's a 1960 model 104. I couldn't resist it at the price.
The case was very nice, but when I opened it!!!
There is one tiny mark on it, on the back. Not a scratch on any of the chrome, and the alder as nice as the day it was made. Very cool steel bar in the case compartment, too...

Oh, sounds sweet, too. The copper tape is added shielding to cut the noise.

“I say in speeches that a plausible mission of artists is to make people appreciate being alive at least a little bit. I am then asked if I know of any artists who pulled that off. I reply, 'The Beatles did.”

Paul and Darren,
You guys snagged a couple of great lap steels at bargain prices. I think they are actually model 102. I just bought a 102, with what I think could be fireglo or burgundyglo for $325.
These are really great lap steels. I've seen them sell for as much as $700. Rick basses use the same magnets and I understand these lap steels are being stripped to restore old Rick basses.

Unfortunately, I have done that a few times. I had a change of heart a while back and gave up the practice. It seems so wrong to do that now.
Re: Re:
Its not only wrong but kind of silly, since horseshoes can be remagnatized over and over.rickfan60 wrote:rshatz wrote: Unfortunately, I have done that a few times. I had a change of heart a while back and gave up the practice. It seems so wrong to do that now.
Re: TIME CAPSULE LAP STEEL
In my case it was done to replace missing pickups in older basses. I made exaclty 3 bass pickups using 70's bass bobbins and parts from 50's vintage steels. I only used the simple models - nothing rare or fancy. It probably does not redeem me much (at all) but I did rebuild the steel pickups using the soft magnets from the bass pickups. I put the magnet under the steel bobbin and it worked pretty nicely. I have one remaining that was to be de-shoed but it will remain whole. Here is one I converted. The whole one I have is the same model (102?).
