Wow, there's a section on this forum for Ric steel guitars? Whod'a thunk it? I mean, there's lots and lots of models and variations, and they're a big, big part of the overall story.

Now I know some of you kids out there with all your expensive Capris and F-bodies and 4005 basses and Lightshows have at least one or two of these.

Let's liven up this section. Mine is a beat-up '40s grey Model NS with black horseshoe. Who else?

I gots a 1938 Model 59 with tan crinkle finish and a 60's greyish looking one on the way. Will post pics when it comes in. For the '38, check out the "37 lap steel" thread.

FYI, I pulled out the newspaper to determine it was a 38 not a 37.

Yeah I find one of the best things is taking out the old news paper from inside the pressed metal steels. It's great to pull out a newspaper from 1937 or something! Very cool

Graham - that's an AMAZING pedal steel! I never knew that RIC made any of those. And with the flame/tiger stripe maple, that must be the Holy Grail of steels.

For what it's worth, I too, have the little press-board student model 6 string just like the one in your bottom photo. It's a good match for my "skill level."

A further heads-up to all you steel players: (piggy-backing off of Kenny's thread) I started the 'Memorium - Your Guitar's Manufacture Anniversary' under the 'Rickenbacker General' topic, to give all Rick owners the chance to celebrate their guitar's birthday and tell the story behind their favorite guitars in the lines of history - gigs played, previous owners & so on. Got a B-6 with the white, plastic cover plates. Haven't been able to date it as it appears to have been made before pot codes were used. It is definitely a post-war, but sounds wonderful just the same. I sit around with it on Saturday mornings and play along with the little interludes on "Spongebob".
