Console 518 (8-10-8) Nut/Headstock metal bulging

Post by sandman6530 »

I recently bought a Rick Console 518 on Ebay. When I received the guitar I noticed something that concerned me and I was wondering if anyone has an opinion. The 10 string neck nut (which is really one piece with the headstock) seems to be bulging a bit on the treble end (looks like it was compressed somehow). Do you think this will affect the intonation of the guitar by shortening the string length? If so, how might I go about fixing it or replacing it? Thanks. Shawn

Hi Shawn;
I don't have ready access to my 508, but I suspect that if there is an intonation issue it will be pretty minor. Depending on exactly what has happened there, you may be able to file it back flush. Trying to replace it could be a challenge, depending on how that was assembled.
