Shouldn't this have a horseshoe pickup, not the plastic cover high gain pickup?

Re: Help?
I don't think I've ever seen a configuration quite like that. My best guess is that this is the last version of Rick lap steel made. I've never played or heard one. The wood legs are flimsy at best. I'm pretty sure there's not a horseshoe pickup under the cover. It's probably a P90 like pickup. The metal cover was a good idea. That pickup is meant to be covered.

Re: Help?
Considering trying - I've always loved the sound. Unless I could cherry-pick a Rick, I'd probably go for the $80 Rogue suggested in the other thread till I find out if I'd be any good at it.sloop_john_b wrote:Learning to play the lap steel, are we John?
Richard, I was thinking someone "borrowed" the horseshoe off this one and replaced it with the high gain off their bass. I don't believe the plastic cover pickups were around until mid '68.
Edit - Okay, I just saw the serial number on the jack, and it is from Dec. 1969, so the pickup is probably original and an early high gain.
