"Gibson Electric Steel Guitars 1935-1967"

Post by rshatz »

Sorry,
I know this is a Rick thing, but I have to mention something really special that should interest all steel guitar guys. A.R.Duchoissoir has just published what is in my not so humble opinion the definitive work on Gibson electric steel guitars, which covers all the years of production from "35-"67.
Of interest to this forum is the early history of the lap steel, from which he includes
some very insightful and well researched history about the Rickenbacher original "Frypan" and the design of the original horseshoe pickup.
This opus is exhaustive, scholarly and almost entirely inclusive of all these great instruments from the beginning to the end of production.
It's a hardbound book that is beautifully printed on slick and thick paper with beautiful photos of almost every steel guitar Gibson ever made.
One of my collection is in this book, but I don't have any financial interest. This is just the greatest labor of love that ARD has published to date. Buy it, you'll like it.
