The Big Kahuna
I spotted this a few days ago and have resisted all temptation so far. I thought I'd pass it along for you to see. The price is too high, but they don't come up for sale very often.

Wow! I didn't know RIC/Electro made 10 string lap steels back then.

That looks like the flight deck of an aircraft carrier!
Re: The Big Kahuna
A shop near my house has one of these. It's hard to overstate how massive the horseshoes are... wow!
The price is about the same, as well.

Great Ramp In My Opinion.
Re: The Big Kahuna
Ten string lap steels of this era were intended for the Eddie Alkire "E-Harp" tuning.

Re: The Big Kahuna
I agree with you completely. There is a photo of a young Eddie Alkire holding one of these Rickenbacher ten strings. I would guess the photo is before Epiphone, Valco and Gibson came out with their ten string instruments. I don't know how to attach photos at present.
I didn't purchase the Gbase instrument, but one did come up on ebay at half the price the dealer on Gbase was asking, and I somehow won that auction. It needed a bit of work, but it came out beautifully, and is a dream come true. I haven't tried the Alkire tuning as yet, but my next quest will be to acquire an Eddie Alkire album to hear what it is supposed to sound like.
I jokingly refer to it as "my heavy metal guitar".

Is this the picture?

Here's my more modern Rick 10 string. Not quite as cool as a 1939 model, but they've added a couple of 8 string "runways" to the flight deck...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
