Count me in buddy! :) Hawaiian and country, doesn't matter. Happy to have a (long-distance anyway) pal who learned from him and has his autograph on one of his steels.
It's never too late to have a happy childhood. :)

I have always loved Jerry Byrds steel guitar playing...and i agree, whether hawaiin or country...it didnt matter it was all good. I purchased alot of his albums back in the days....never could play any of it myself on the steel, but I enjoyed his music. He and Chet Atkins had a 15 min radio program back in the 40s or 50s I think it was ...wouldnt it be great to have recordings of those....the closest is the Chet recording called Jazz from the Hills, which has Jerry on it along with Jethro Burns.
