Value of a BD-6 Bakelite Steel- I need an idea $$

Post by toneman »

I have a BD- Bakelite like the one pictured on page #34 of the Smith book and photo title is "BD-6 circa 1949". I've had it for a number of years but it really belongs to a friend of mine and I'd like to buy it from him. I ain't given it back..LOL!
The problems are: no case, no serial number and the pots have been replaced with newer 250K pots. Overall condition of the lapsteel is about 7.5 to 8 (on a scale of 1-10).
Can somebody give me an honest clue to what would be a fair price to offer him. I've seen dead mint one's with case and all original parts going for $850. or so
Thanks!!!
