I've owned this for about 20 years. I've always thought it was a Post War B6. However, I couldn't find any serial # or identifying number. I even checked the pots, but the date code didn't help me (24171-5 5212 ?).
So, here is a pic:

This looks like a model B with black panels.

Is the pickup magnet 1.5" or 1.25" wide? Makes a difference as to dating.

Given the pickup surround I'd say it is 1 1/4".

yes, it's a 1-1/4" pickup

With a 1 1/4" pickup, it would be a post-war Model B. Through 1950, post-war Model B steels had a "T" logo on the peghead with "Electro" spelled vertically. Yours does not.

My best guess based on the photo is that yours is a circa 1950-55 Model B.

thanks ... I suppose it's possible that the pot code I couldn't figure out might be from late '52 then, since it ends with '5212'

the other thing that throws me though, is the headplate logo has the old spelling: "Rickenbacher"

After the "T" logo was discontinued, leftover small plate logos with the old "Rickenbacher" spelling were used on the Model B until that model was discontinued in 1955.

Here is a photo of the headstock of a 1951 Model B showing the small plate logo. Is this what yours looks like?

yes, my headplate looks just like that ... you can just make out the shape in the photo I posted, although you can't read it

thanks kindly for the info ... I didn't know they used older plates, but I've always wondered why my smaller pickup model had a seemingly older headplate logo!
