Tuning for 7 string lap steel

Post by Dan_Finegan »

The header says it all...what are the most common tunings for the 7-string steel? I'm especially curious about tuning in "A".

Thanks!!

Try the B11th
from the first string
E-C#-A-F#-D#-B-F#
It's a bit of A6 and very similar to a 9th tuning if you omit the 1st string.
OR if you are a guitarist, the following relates very easilly- E6 (G#-E-C#-B-G#-E-C#)or D for E13th

Very cool, Basil; Dan, also try one of Sol Hoopi's favorites: F#-E-C#-G#-E-D-B. It's a variation on the C# minor, and loads of fun if you slant the bar!
Show him the shirts, Adrian.

Basil: Thanks for your interesting post. Would you also comment on the sound and playability of your Rickenbacher Lap Steel and how you acquired it.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm
