Did 325v59 pickups change specs 84-2001?
I know some had "hot toasters" and later models had "scatter wound".Just curious what kind of pickups are in my 1996?

This is just off the top of my head, correct me if I'm wrong...
IIRC, Scatterwounds debuted on the 325/12 and 425/450 reissues of 1999.
If that's the case, your guitar would have the hot toasters.

Why is the top left knob on the v59's way over to the left?

I don't know, why is it made of maple? Why is the fretboard varnished? Why does it have a double-layer pickguard? Why does it have Kluson tuners? Why does it have a standard bridge? Why...cessna tomtom wrote:Why is the top left knob on the v59's way over to the left?
No offense Mitch, I think yours looks great regardless. The stuff of my middle school dreams.

Those are all great questions (I'd add body depth too). A cynic might observe that if you get it so far wide of the mark in the first place, that allows you to do it again correctly (the C58's) and sell the same idea twice (in many cases to the exact same customers)...from a Salesman's perspective that must look like a pretty attractive proposition.

I've always like the model 325v59 with its 'errors'. It was made as a reproduction of a '59 and as such, it's not too bad. To compare it to a '58 is not really a fair comparison. A little noticed point is that the v59's (and the 320B) are the only 325's of any vintage ever made by the factory with dual level gold pickguards. In years to come finding one with both guards still in place may be a rarity, as so many are removed. The post '99 models with the scatterwound pickups and a few other minor tweaks are the choice. I've always wondered how the v59's ended up with such a hinkey looking control layout, which doesn't resemble anything from any vintage model, but that's something very easily addressed if you wanted

Thanks for the posts! Is the 325v59 the only Rickenbacker to come with a factory installed Bigsby or were there others?
Re: Did 325v59 pickups change specs 84-2001?
It was the only standard production one to have the Bigsby but certainly a few special instruments were made. We probably would have continued to use them on some type of Lennon replica, except that Fender took over the OEM sales of these which dampened our enthusiasm toward using them.octagon wrote:Thanks for the posts! Incidentally, I just released a box of B5's left over from V59 production to be put up on the RIC Outlet eBay account shortly.
