1964 325 headstocks

Post by 325-at-2pm »

Howdy folks: It seems that there are a variety of headstock shapes that exist on 1964 325s. What was the pattern used for John's DB122 325?

Since Rickenbacker used patterns for the headstock shaping, it seems to me that a well informed Rickenbacker collector could point out another year and model with the same headstock shape as John's guitar. In addition, was the same pattern used on all of the Rose Morris 325s?

This is a difficult one to answer. I'm wondering whether the headstocks of those first few 325's produced in either late '63 or early '64 were merely the same type as was used previously? ('58 - '63). There are so few examples, with this apparently different headstock.

The majority of 325/1996's produced in '64 appear to have the familiar slim style headstock as used from early '64 onwards.

In later years a much wider style headstock came into being. I'm told it was to handle the keywinds that Ric had started using after the Kluson Delux type was discontinued.
