Post by 13_temple_street »

Jim Gretty organised the Star Matinee Concert at the Albany Cinama Maghull on Sunday 15th October 1961.The organisers of the' Beat Goes On' exhibition at the Liverpool World Museum William Brown Street Liverpool 1, have posted on the Internet (GOOGLE) a copy of the program for this event. The link with the Iron Door is a early photograph of the Beatles taken against a faux stone wall in the club.(Peter McCormack has written in detail regarding this photograph on the Iron Door Club Site)
Star Matinee Concert
The Beatles were taken of the stage after two numbers some members of the audience also some of the artist's complained that the act wasn't good enough.

Jim also had links with the Liverpool Jazz Society (aka Iron Door Club)as a Country and Western performer. He appeared on four occasions,he was a portly gentleman dressed in what would once have been a pure white suit and Stetson hat.He always brought along a selection of guitars, give a little talk on the merits of each instrument.
On one occasion he thrust a box of business cards at me "Sign the back of the cards give them to the lads in the groups when they come to the store I will give them some discount on their purchasers.
