This I've never seen. Could it have been caused by heating?

Re: 2007 jetglo, severe finish damage
I've seen that kind of finish checking on '50s Capris. My guess is severe temperature variations, very cold then brought into heated environment.
Re: 2007 jetglo, severe finish damage
I suppose that is finish checking, although it looks a lot like a thick paint job with a 4" brush.
Scotty would know, for sure.

Could it be wrapped with some sort of foil? The fretboard seems unaffectedjps wrote:I suppose that is finish checking, although it looks a lot like a thick paint job with a 4" brush.

As does the headstock, from what I noted.
Re: 2007 jetglo, severe finish damage
Google translate wasn't much help.
"This used Rickenbacker 330 JetGlo was made in California in 2007 in California, and is in very good condition on the dry lacquer.
The 330 JetGlo features the original case with original guides and accessories.
Careful acoustic research has provided the full, rich and warm sound of this popular Rickenbacker model."
"Dry lacquer"...?
The striations are remarkably consistent in direction and relative alignment... like a paint brush, all right!
I have no idea. Finish checking is usually very random, scattered and running off in multiple directions, at least in my limited experience. This? Call me confused.

It sure looks like brush marks to me, too. You’d think the “refinisher” would have used a can of automotive spray paint....

I don't think Scott Baillie uses a sprayer.........................maxwell wrote:It sure looks like brush marks to me, too. You’d think the “refinisher” would have used a can of automotive spray paint....
Re: 2007 jetglo, severe finish damage
Well, I don't know who that is, and if "brush marks" was the intended effect, then, well, OK.... (I can appreciate artistic license.)jps wrote:I don't think Scott Baillie uses a sprayer.........................maxwell wrote:It sure looks like brush marks to me, too.
