Signal Chain placement of Compressor

Post by 3bound »

So I got a 12 string Ric coming and want to explore using a compressor. I stopped using compressors quite a while ago but with my new interest in adding some 12 string to the band
I figure I better check into the whole Compressor idea again.
Does it matter if I run it just after the guitar and before pedal board that is already set up for my other electrics?
I would probably use only for the 12 string.
Thanks for any info

Generally speaking, compression should be the first in your chain (so guitar->compressor->overdrive->etc). There are times where compressing overdrive can be interesting, but first in the chain is pretty much the rule of thumb.

The reason for putting it first is to get as clean and strong a signal as possible before further processing.
