You have to love these old brochures. Thanks for posting the image.

Looks like an early 430 prototype with the Fender style headstock in there too.
Re: Pretty interesting
I wonder if that came from Forrest White. Remember the prototype bass with the Music Man style 3+1 headstock?ChuckEds wrote:Looks like an early 430 prototype with the Fender style headstock in there too.

John, I see on wornfrets.com that you've had some up close time with some of these guitars in this brochure..
Where you able to get any info about the 3000? I dont recall ever seeing a 3000 quite like that.

I don't recall any specific information about that one; to be honest, I was hyper-focused on a handful of specific instruments, like the Jazz-Bo models and the John Paul Jones 4001. There were lots of instruments there!

It's pretty hard to take all that in, during one trip.
I could have a half-dozen trips to the RIC museum before really seeing everything. Most of the instruments there are one-offs, prototypes or really limited production examples, there are very little "garden variety" instruments there.
Jazz-Bo......be still, my heart.
Re: Pretty interesting
I've read that the 430 was one of his projects during his time at Rickenbacker, although it changed quite a bit from the original design.jps wrote:I wonder if that came from Forrest White. Is this the bass you're thinking of, the combo 600 from 1958? Was there a different, later version??

Yeah, that bass, but it is not from the '50s, more like the early/mid '70s.ChuckEds wrote:I've read that the 430 was one of his projects during his time at Rickenbacker, although it changed quite a bit from the original design.jps wrote:I wonder if that came from Forrest White. Just for the benefit of anyone browsing this thread in the years to come.
I seem to recall a similar brochure, on green paper stock.

The examples of these that are in the factory museum are unplayable (action around 1” high) and remain for historic purposes.nov_1981 wrote:

The slide guitarists may be ok with it.
