Interesting Registry Results
Just playing with the Registry and thought this was cool..,
4001's out number 4003's "4001/4 748 21.88%" vs "4003/4 369 10.79%". I thought there would be more 4003's.
Analysis by Year shows an interesting fact....more older basses registered than newer ones!
The TOP TEN years are....
1999 232 6.83%
1998 183 5.39%
1997 163 4.8%
1991 133 3.91%
2000 132 3.88%
1996 126 3.71%
1992 124 3.65%
1990 120 3.53%
1989 116 3.41%
1967 103 3.03%
"Very interesting".......

Re: Interesting Registry Results
I agree, Tony that there is much interesting information in the Register. It is, of course, important to remember that this is not a scientific poll and as such there is sampling bias the will skew the results. The extent to which the Register approximates the distritribution of Rickenbackers in a neighbourhood near you is a question that we cannot yet answer.
The Register is a great tool to further our knowledge but it may say more about those who can afford computers and who have the time to write about them than the distribution of model and finishes in various areas of the planet. Also recall that the Register has been shut down for several years which has skewed the sampling toward the late 1990s. We will surely see changes now that the user has better access to the Register. As the sample size increases, however, it will become a more powerful instrument. At the very least it is a fascinating study of the Rickenbacker models and how they have changed over the decades.
Thanks for your introductory comments, they certainly have piqued my interest.

Re: Interesting Registry Results
I realize that the 4004 basses have been produced in much smaller quantities than other models, but I was surprised to see that only 31 of them have been registered. I know of at least 3 more (not mine) that do not appear in the registry.
The JETGLO finish name should be officially changed to JETGLO ROCKS!
Re: Interesting Registry Results
Peter,
Agreed, and I realize this isn't a scientific poll, but it is very cool just to have some idea of what is out there.
I can't wait to see how many newer model RIC's turn up. I really hope that new customers (and perhaps, a younger generation) will discover just how FINE these guitars are!
John,
IF all the 1999's looked like that, I'm SURE 1999 would be the most popular listed by far!
Joey,
I'll register my 4004Cii Blueburst as soon as it arrives. By the way, this IS December and rumor has it that RIC will be making a run of them sometime this month.....OH PLEASE, PLEASE......come to papa!

Peter,
Just a quick question.
Do you want to keep track when ownership changes from one forum member to another?
I just sold my 360 to a new member.

Re: Interesting Registry Results
Yes, Tony. I certainly do. Whether the new owner wishes to contribute is up to them of course. But if they don't, you can always indicate that it was sold and the date and location from which it was sold.

Re: Interesting Registry Results
I can already see that searching the registry will be an addictive and time-consuming habit! I already have seen that my 4000FL is the only one so far registered. Once I correct my 325v59 entry (I mistakenly entered it as a 320 instead of a 325), it will be the earliest example registered so far. And I haven't even started playing around with the statistical analysis!
Re: Interesting Registry Results
I look forward to the changes Dr. Who. I quite agree, there is nothing quite like Rickenbacker Forensics. Detective Rick Dick is on the case. "There's just one thing that keeps bothering me sir."

I was a great fan of Columbo ... "Just one more question, sir ..."!
Here is an example of "data mining":
Although the sample is small, this distribution can be interpreted as supporting the hypothesis that there are fewer units of a model sold early in its sales lifetime.

Re: Interesting Registry Results
Thanks Gary. Your efforts are appreciated. There are going to be many interesting trends to emerge from the Register.
