Mike Parks always referred to that as "Rick-O-Smell" that heavenly aroma you get when you first open the case of a Rickenbacker fresh from the factory!

I'd love to have the exact DAY of my li'l Ricky's birth -- then I could have an astrological chart done on it!

You can find the exact date if you buy a Taylor or Gibson... :D
I have a Les Paul that was born on my birthday.

It took some time, but I realized that there are some Rickenbackers that do have an "official" day of manufacturing: Limited Edition models that have a Certificate of Authenticity. The certificate has the month, day, and year of manufacture on it.

Is there any way to find the exact DAY of the month a Ric is born?
Thanks in advance. :?:
Only for signature editions, as there is a date on the certificate. I usually put "DOB: and the date" in the comments field.

Date of build BTW, not date of birth! lol

You can make an educated guess as to the week, based upon the number ranges in a given month.

In the late 80s and most of the 90s the numbers count down each month. so higher numbers in a month are earlier.

The wonderful thing about the 60s, 70s and early eighties is sequential Sn's

Taking June 1980, just as an example. The number range for TF is 2137 to 2647. So roughly 500 instruments that month. Dividing by four gives you the week. So my old 620 12 - TF2140 was likely one of the first completed that month.

Of coarse it took 6 weeks minimum to build an instrument from start to finish. When did they start to build it? When the order was placed??

I assumed that the SN was added at the assembly stage, but that may not be true..

The new SN system which gives the week is much more accurate.

It is fun to speculate...

The 4001V63 I had has a routing-S/N sticker in the control cavity with specific Month/Day/Year information written on it.

What that date actually means is anybody's guess (well, there are certain people who know  ). What that date represents iis pretty interesting, too.
