What do y'all think of GFS pickups? Has anyone tried the Retrotron Nashville?

Very popular choice on the Gretsch forums among Electromatic owners. My experience with GFS doesn't include any of the Retrotron series but I've been unimpressed both times I've installed their products.

Had those exact pickups in one of my Les Pauls for a bit. Not bad at all, and a good value.

I actually have tried them also ... I put the Liverpool Hot pickups in my Gretsch

and was also unimpressed. I didn't like the "Hot" part.

I have the Nashvilles on order and hope they will perk up my Epiphone Sheraton II.

Curiously, GFS describe the Nashville as Beatle-y and having Jangle, but dont describe the Liverpools that way.

I would like to try out their Dynasonic style p/u in the bridge position of one of my WBs, but I must admit some disappointment that the pole pieces are non-adjustable. I think they omnitted this feature in order to obain adequate string clearance on Ricks and similar guitars. If the tone is there I can't complain for $39!

Strats and Teles don't have adjustable pole pieces, and seem to work out fine. Like you said, for 39 bucks, you can't really go wrong.

those are cheap pickups to play with, they are rather inconsistent. i have gotten some of their split tele deluxe style humbuckings for experiment, they were just that: cheap pickups to start with, at the end i replaced them with tv jones magnatrons which were exactly what i was hoping for foolishly to get from gfs.

Interesting. So I take it you were trying to blend DeArmond-style twang and single coil spank in a standard Filter'Tron™ footprint?

If new pickups don't do it for me, I'll get one of these:

I know some "musicians" who could really use that.
