I have an electric guitar project that I'm working on-- it is a Fender-esque solid body and it will have a late 80's hi-gain in the bridge.
I'm really undecided on what to use as the neck pickup; I'm not looking to put a Ric PU there. I'm leaning toward a Tele or Strat neck pickup, but a humbucker could be nice. Or a P-90... I'd be interested in reading some opinions!
Thanks for your help.

Thanks Ken. I posted this question on another board and they concur... though there was one vote for a Gibson humbucker!

a Gibson HB may well over power the Rick pickup and not be a good match. I would be concerned about the P-90 doing that too but I do think that the P-90's tone and the High Gains tone would somewhat compliment each other. That is just my opinion. I would have hoped more people would chime in. You may have gotten more of a response to this in the Forum 51 topic section.

Hi Bob,
Two thoughts:
1) SD Mini-humbucker;
2) A TV Jones humbucker.
These will be brighter than a PAF but will contrast nicely with the higain. Also, the footprint will be similar to the higain, so the cosmetics will be better than using a PAF, P90 or a Strat/Tele pup.

Thanks guys... I should probably post something in that other section.
The guitar that I'm putting it in is one of those new Danelectro solid body "Dead On '67" Hornets. So, I guess the larger question is will this guitar have a Ric tone with the Ric pu in the bridge-- period!

The all maple construction of a Rick has a lot to do with its bright tone.
