Neck Pup noise

Post by T.A.R. »

Help.... Picked up my bass('74 4001) plugged in and and got noise. By noise I mean a slow hum almost staccato. The pickup was working under the noise and both sound and noise were controlled by Volume and Tone. The bridge Pup is clear and unaffected. I have opened up anything yet. I'd appreciate any thoughts on the matter, messing with this stuff scares blank out of me. Thanks

Plugged in at another location. The noise is pretty much gone? could it be fluorescent lighting?

After looking under the Pickguard and not seeing anything re assembly the noise moved to the bridge Pup. Went through the process again all is well now. I figure a wire was grounding out on a pot or some such.

When you opened the bass up the second time some magic fairy dust entered the wiring, hence the cure.

Yes it is, It was there when i bought the bass in the early 80s. I just got a '72 Higain and when I find a surround, I hope to return the bass to stock.

An original '72 treble high-gain? Not the easiest of vintage Rick parts to come by I'm sure hehe.
