Thanks Wim, for a moment there I thought I'd made a big mistake.

Another thing that I noticed that looked different to your picture was the black covering that sits on top of the coil and shows through the toaster cover top.
On yours it looks like the two toaster slot shapes are actually moulded onto the black cover, on this one it was just a thin piece of black plastic with no shaping for the toaster top.
The guy was also selling a plexi TRC, which was fake too.

look at how fat the bobbin was, before I unwound it and it still was about 15KOhm

They must have pressed it in the cover.
Who needs gain, when you got a rickenbacker anyway
someone probably rewound the coil; that bobbin looks real.

15KOhm?! I'd buy that and stick it in the bridge position; I have a few toaster coils in the bridge positions of some of my Ricks at 14K and 15K; they sound fantastic! :D

There's not a single genuine part there.

The differences must be very subtle then. How can you tell?

Thanks Wim and John, I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to this. It's been an invaluable lesson for me, and I certainly know a little bit more about toaster pickups, real or otherwise.
Cheers.

Lmao @ the pics of "real" toasters!

That fake toaster is a great source of strong bar magnets, but that's about all it's good for
