Hi guys. Dumb question for you... I want to replaced the factory hi-gains on my 2004 Ric 360 with HB1 humbuckers. Can someone confirm that these in the link below are the right ones? It seems odd to me that the pickups are for both bass and guitar.

Quite a few "bass" p/u have 6 poles inside, but have a flat surface which doesnt show that.

Charles, HB1's are dual blade humbuckers that sound great in bass or guitar, but the stock electronics in a 360 aren't even optimized for single coil pickups, let alone humbuckers. You'll need 500K pots all around, and .022uF tone caps. I build custom harnesses for these with the addition of push-pull coil taps using matched components.

How much would that cost?

Charles......A harness for a 360 with HB1's, a pair of push-pull controls to coil-short the HB1's and Rick-O-Sound output would be $120+shipping.

Would those be authentic Ric pick-ups?

Alternatively, I'm also considering buying toaster pickups. How do they compare to HB1s?

HB1's are RIC humbuckers. They measure about 15K Ohms. Toasters usually spec out at at around 7.5K. An HB1 has a fatter tone than a Toaster, but when one of the coils is shorted to ground, it can sound a bit like a Toaster, since it becomes a single coil.

Thanks for your replies. I'm going for a Guy Picciotto (Fugazi) sound. Although his wiki article says he plays with HB1s, the only photos of him playing appear to be with hi-gains. That's what these are, right?

Can't tell for sure on the 330, but the 360 is definitely loaded with Hi-Gains.

Dane, would your custom harness work in a left-handed 360?

Richard, I make left handed harnesses all the time. I can make them clockwise, or counter clockwise rotation. Since I don't carry left handed pots (CTS doesn't make the pots I use in LH version), counter clockwise rotaion wiring brings the volume or tone up pretty fast.

So it turns out that Guy used a Hi-Gain on the neck and an HB-1 on the bridge. What would you charge for an appropriate harness for that setup?

$110 shipped in the US assuming the coil shorting option for the HB1. You'll need to reverse the red and blue wires on the HB1 to make it in phase with the single coil pickup.
