Tony Jackson and Status Quo?

Post by admin »

Status Quo released an album in 1996 entitled "Dont Stop" which was comprised of covers recorded by the band during sound checks over the years. It would seem from the liner notes (which I have not yet seen) that a TJ sings as a back-up singer. Although the source is not known, Michael Denger has revealed that these initials may stand for Tony Jackson, one of the original Searchers. The title of this release and the track listing follows.

Don't Stop

Released in UK on February 5th 1996 and rest of Europe on February 12th 1996.

Yes I agree it may be another Tony Jackson but given When You Walk in The Room, I thought it a possibility and something to be ruled out.

I recall a few years ago seeing a single on the record racks by a Tony Jackson who was definitely not 'our' Tony Jackson. I assume therefore that this TJ is the one that appears on the Status Quo album.
If it ain't broke, don't mend it.

The songs in which TJ participated were Get Back and Proud Mary. This, of course, gets us no closer to understanding if it was the Searchers' Tony Jackson but it is interesting music trivia.
