Anyone heard of Crews basses (Japanese)

HI, I saw the Manhattan Transfer in concert last Friday night. Their bass player had an upright (of course) and was also using this Japanese 5 string electric, made by Crews. There isn't much info on them on the net. Is anyone here familiar with this particular brand. He told me he bought it in Japan and paid $4500, if I heard him correctly. That seemed like a pretty high price, although the guitar looked and sounded great. Tom
