Janglebox 3 given a test run

Post by fireglo330 »

Paid the big coin and picked up the JB3 on the weekend.

Gotta say I love the Jangle boost end of this unit with the Rick 330 6 string on my Vox AC30ccx ( with blues). I had been using an OCD as a "treble booster" but in comparison the OCD now sounds abrasive. Good bye OCD, hello JB3.

I tried a little bit with my Italia 12 string and it sound sweet with this as well. Sorry I have no access to a Rick 12 on my end.

I had limited compressor usage in the past. I tried a Boss unit but hated all the extra noise (hiss) it added when not playing.

The JB3 creates some collateral noise as well. The pedal has a mute button however so a quick tap on this and everything was quiet again. Just remember to tap again before playing.

All in all a great pedal but I don't know if this is worth the $$$ layout if you already have the JB or JB2.

My two cents.

Hey Paul,
Thanks for the report on the new Janglebox. I have the USA JB2 that's not going anywhere! :)

Paul,

If you're at all bothered by that "collateral noise" from your JB3, you might consider investing in a J-Gate. I got one to use with my old JB2, and it makes my rig dead quiet.

The J-Gate sells for $225.00 while the MXR Smart Gate sells for $130. Less if used. Go with the Smart Gate if you really need to tame noise. The Smart Gate is basically a Rockman Smart Gate that was created by Boston's Tom Scholtz

MXR is made in SEA, I think the J-Gate is made in USA, if that makes a difference. :?

Of course, that means squat to those who live outside of the US.
