You are never too old to do what you enjoy, and it ain't up to anyone else to tell you otherwise.

Interesting case in point: new record by a band I have been listening to for twenty years. Great album--much confidence and an appropriate amount of swagger. Twenty years ago, they were sloppy, and full of angst. Today, they are definitely better players, and a more ferocious band; but the angst is gone. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it is appealing to those of us who have, perhaps, lost a lot of our angst as we have become more settled and...comfortable with our place in this world, or whatever.

This begs the question: does punk have to be angry? Is it necessarily protest music? Or is passion, or sincerity, enough? Just about other things.

I guess I can be angry about young so-called punks saying I am too old to like/play punk...

Has Iggy Pop slowed down yet?

From Wikipedia:
"After a March 2010 stage diving accident, Pop claimed he would no longer stage dive. However, he did so on three occasions at a concert in Madrid, Spain on 30 April 2010. And it was much the same in London at the Hammersmith Apollo on 2 May 2010. On 9 July 2010 he again stage dived in Zottegem, Belgium, causing Iggy to bleed from the face."

At 63 years of age

I don't think Iggy could slow down if he tried, it's just in his blood, wherever it's dripping at the time

Of course Johnny Rotten will keep at it, just like the rest of them. Why? The money is there and they probably don't know what else to do.

Indeed. And why not anyway? As long as they come up with good stuff which doesn't sound like "commercial exclusively", i don't care how much money thing is involved (after all, it might have been money reasons from the very start). And when the music comes out as c-r-a-p, it really doesn't matter much to the listener what were the intentions, whether it is just pure c-r-a-p or pathetic "anthemic" c-r-a-p about starting a revolution, or taking the world over, or something like that. (Mind that, i definitely do not mean to say that all "anthemic" songs are c-r-a-p, some of them actually rate from "good" to "very good", and some are even great.)
"Doing what you feel like doing", being real and true, is the most important thing, at least in my books. Even if one has no idea what else they could do.
Nothing will get you dead quicker than being deadly serious about yourself.
