Brian, if you can enough of fretless tones, I'm pretty sure all the bass guitar played by Stanley Sheldon on Peter Frampton's, Frampton Comes Alive was fretless.

I can't think of fretless in R&B songs other than "Night Shift" by The Commodores.

Bump.

I just got my fretless yesterday and I'm glad I found this thread. I guess I'll be learning more Pearl Jam now!

It's nice seeing a lot of Pino in these posts. Murder I learned before I got my fretless just for when I got it. Also, That Firm clip... I LOVE Tony Franklin. The man sold me on getting a fretless.

Here are some things I've been playing with that haven't been mentioned.
Pearl Jam - Oceans
Arcadia - The Promise (Guest spot for Mark Egan)
Pink Floyd - Poles Apart
Queensrÿche - Anybody Listening?
Queensrÿche - Out Of MInd
Rush - Malignant Narcissism
The Police - O My God
1976 Rickenbacker 4001
2011/05 Fender Standard Fretless Jazz Bass
2005/11 Fender Standard Jazz Bass

Here's another beauty, from a beauty, who is the last truly great English female talent.
The phrasing from 1.20 to 1.30 is divine...
Much like her...

Wow.

Never paid much attention to Kate...yet another pitiful oversight on my part.

Oh, and the fretless is good too!

Sorry Jeff ! :( No intention to teach a bass player about JG ! That was rather my own interest - went down, took out the old Kate Bush records and googled around about JG...

Almost any song from XTC's English Settlement has Colin Moulding doing really excellent fretless bass work.

As an example:

Brian, I just pulled out that version of "Can't find my way home" by "spin 1ne 2wo" (P.Carrack, S.Ferrone, R.Hine, T.Levin, Ph.Palmer) from 1993. That bass Tony Levin is playing is just amazing, don't really know if it's a fretless or the stick.

Some great stuff on here. Thanks Dan, Alex and Jerry for your recent suggestions. Keep 'em coming. I never realised until recently that fretless basses were used in some really great tunes.
