Paul Revere / Raiders "Kicks" cover (360-12)

Post by beatbyrd »

The two guitars I used were a 360-12 and a Fender Nashville Telecaster. It's the last song on the page at: http://www.beatbyrd.com/misc_covers_2
It's a Byrd, it's a playin'..........

Great job, as always, Tom! 8)

Here is a version the old covers band I was in did. One of the guitars is a 330, and the bass is my old 4001V63 using just the scatterwound toaster.

I always loved that song. Both versions sound great but.... I gotta say the 360-12 just sounds so much better than a "6" on that opening riff!

I totally agree. 8) Both guitarists in my old band are/were too wimpy to play a 12 string.

Hey Jeff... I thought your version was great, but I'm also in the '12 string required' camp. That 6 string sounds a little 'surfy' at the end of the song. And BTW, it's no fair using a real drummer!!!! Thanks for the comments, guys. Tom

Side question...... did you ever swap out any tubes in the LA-610?
It's a Byrd, it's a playin'..........

No, I did not have the LA-610 long enough to do any tube rolling; have you done any, yet?

Real drummer. Isn't that an oxymoron?

For the first question:
No, but I talked to the UA folks at the NAMM show. They said that replacement should only be necessary when the sound degrades or there's noise.
I know that sometimes people replace Soviet/Chinese tubes with NOS British/American/German tubes in an effort to improve the sound. I wondered if you had done that at any point.

For the second question:
I believe that 'responsible drummer' would be more accurate. You know, someone you can 'count' on..........
It's a Byrd, it's a playin'..........

Tom, another great cover - song of yours with the Rickenbacker chiming on through !!
And good vocals, too ! Very enjoyable :D

As an aside, Tom, the bass on my version of "Kicks" was recorded through the LA-610!
