A classic from Studio Z, somewhere in the Deep South
There are signposts all over down here, where Civil war battles took place.....this song came to me with 2 modulations and new lyrics.....there is a Gibson acoustic and my Rick 360-12 on the track.....the voices are all mine....

I hope somebody gets it......history DOES repeat
Oh Shenandoah, I long to see you,
oh away, you rollin' river
Oh Shenandoah, I long to see you....
Away.....I'm bound away...'cross the wide...Missouri
Shenandoah, I love your daughter....oh away......
you rollin' river....
Oh Shenandoah...I love your daughter.....
away....I'm bound away.....'cross the wide Missouri
'Cross the wide Missouri....
Oh Shenandoah, I hear your thunder.....
Oh away.....you rollin' river....
Oh Shenandoah...I hear your thunder.....
Away.....I'm bound away.......
'cross the wide.....Missouri.....

As with many genuine folk songs, there are many, many verses. Folks living in the Missouri Valley of course tend to claim the song as their own, which is understandable.

I'm not making a DIME off of this tune.....
It's one of my faves, since my wife directed a production of the musical "Shenandoah" a few years back....

That's some very nice harmonies and playing there - I like it! I didn't know the song even though I love folk music.

Thanks Jonesy! You kind comment is much appreciated......I took liberties with this classic song, lyrically, and I wish I had more guitars in it....
Again, thanks!

It doesn't need any more guitar for me.
Just taking in all the layered vocals is plenty for anyone to concentrate on and enjoy, and the rootsy American folk comes across just great stripped down like that. Enjoyed it, thanks.

Thanks so much for the kind words....I've had more comments on this track than any of my others, Byrds and Beatles covers, originals....ukuser wrote:It doesn't need any more guitar for me.

The Beach Boys, Beatles, Byrds and a great band from the 60s called The Association have been my influences for vocals.
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks again for the note!
