Here's a little ditty to 'while away your coffee break/smoke break, what have you... I recently compiled segments from a handful of projects for my bass demo. The original plan was to slap together samples from about 4-5 songs, but that quickly turned into 18! I wanted to emphasize a wide variety of tones and styles, and there's no way 5 samples could have covered it all, Ricks being the great tonal palettes they are. (Endorsement deal? Hall? Hall? Anybody?)

All bass parts are Rickenbacker except for one song featuring double bass. For those who REALLY like meta data, here's how it breaks down:

18. ROME -
Bassline: Harley bass tuned B-E-A-D, 1979 4001 SLH double tracked playing an octave above the Harley bass to create the effect of a 12-string bass.
Bass riff panned right: 1979 4001SLH.
In the 2nd half of the song, the two octave lines are dropped, and the Harley carries the rest of the bassline by itself.
Bass chords panned left in the last section: Harley bass.

Studio Z here....I gots ta know......are those real drums, or programmed?

I now have to have a 4001.....how I get it is ...problematic.....good tracks---very original...very jazz----nice job....

Gee - all the drums are machine except for section 5 where I'm playing upright bass - that's real drummer James Shepard on a real kit. The two machines I've used over the years are an ancient Yamaha RX-17 and a lesser-ancient Alesis HR-16. The Alesis is the primary machine now, but I still midi it up to the Yamaha for the nice sloppy open hi-hat voice it has. Best hi-hat sample ever!
