Association - 'Along Comes Mary' cover posted

Post by beatbyrd »

Hi, I haven't been posting about new cover songs for a while, figuring that I'd wait until there was something worthwhile. I think that this new one fits the bill. As always, constructive comments and suggestions are welcome. The song is the last one on the page at: http://beatbyrd.com/misc_covers
---- loud and with headphones, if you decide to listen. Tom

(I'm hoping this passes muster with a certain Association fan.......)
It's a Byrd, it's a playin'..........

That's pretty serious stuff, Tom. Love the cowbell on the right channel.
Rics ... and some other stuff....

One of the guitarists at work mentioned that it was mixed too "Manhattan Transfer-ish", so I remixed it with the backup vocals less pronounced. Not to worry though...... I left the cowbell part alone.

:) Somebody did their homework...very nice. I will let Mr Jim Yester know next time I see him. He lives about 8 miles from me and often sells stuff at our local flea market! We'll pick up acoustics sometimes and sing Everly's or Buddy Holly! He'll surely be impressed!

I've always really liked the Association, so I was impressed by your cover. I do think the hand claps needed to be louder, and the drums sounded like a drum machine and didn't quite swing like a real drummer. The Willburys tune was scary good. Having to nail THREE different lead singers voices couldn't have been easy, but you did.

Thanks Dane. The drum tracks on my covers are all assembled; one 'drum' at a time, using a Roland keyboard. It's a challenge to get a real sounding drum track using fingers on piano keys. There is an individual track for kick, snare, toms, hihat, cymbals, cowbell, tambourine, other percussion, etc. This wastes a lot of time, burns many tracks, and also allows for the occasional 'illogical' roll, where a snare, tom, and hihat stick hit are all happening at the same time. I swear I've worked with a couple of 3 handed drummers before, but mostly ones with tails. I did buy a used snare drum, so that I could cover stuff like Turtles, with the super fast and crisp snare drum fills. I have found that the vast majority of civilians focus primarily on the vocals.
Glad you liked the Wilburys tune. Tom
