Chimes of Freedom

Post by jimk »

It is with some trepidation that I submit for your listening ears my cover of Bob Dylan's Chimes of Freedom. I think this is my first unreleased submission on this forum.
Deatails
Instruments used:
  • Rickenbacker 360/12 string, high gain pickups,
Gretsch G5120 with stock Gretschbucker pickups
    Aria Pro II bass
    4 pc. Pearl drum kit
All instruments were played by me, and all vocals are me.

Mics used:
  • MXL 990 for vocals and kick drum
    CAD CM217 for drum overhead
Both guitars were run direct into a Presonus Audiobox USB (Thanks, Mr. Hall for the suggestion) The Rickenbacker was recorded through the ROS output; neck pickup into the Jangle Box 1, bridge pickup into the Jangle Box 2.

The song was moved from the Byrds' original key of G to E. I used a partial capo at the second fret of the Rick giving me an effective tuning of EBEABE. The Gretsch I left in standard tuning. "On beharf of the band and ourselves, I 'ope we passed the aurdition."

Jim,

I was just working on the exact same song! I think you do a really nice job of capturing the spirit of the Byrds version while simultaneously making the song your own. The vocals and the drums are excellent, but it's the guitar work that really shines. As we all know, you're a very skilled fingerstyle player, and you get some real chime from your 360/12. Perhaps it's the Ric-o-Sound, but the guitar parts sound really full and rich. Nice work all around! 8)
