Studio Z Dixie USA--Byrds cover--"If You're Gone"

Post by vynesmusic »

 Been off the grid quite awhile.....playing in a Beatles cover band.......reintroducing meself as a coverer of Byrds and Beatles and 12-string originals.....all voices and real-world instruments by G. Baldwin, CEO, Janitorial Supervisor of Studio Z, located in some upscale Dixie city in the Suburbs of Atlanta......

Great to see you back on the Forum, Gee! "If You're Gone" is an obscure and underrated Byrds song, one of my absolute favorites. You really manage to capture the spirit of the original, while putting your own spin on the song. I hope others will enjoy this post as much as I have! 8) 8) 8)

I used my 360-12, a real Pulse drumset, a Danelectro 6-string and a 1964 Fender P-Bass. Recorded originally on a Tascam MX488 8-track recorder, then mastered via Cakewalk. Thanks for the kind words! :D

I just wanted to ask you if you use thumb and/or fingerpicks on "If You're Gone." You get a very lovely 12-string sound. 8)

Thanks for the comment....I just used a Fender medium pick....the trick is the DoD Milkbox compressor, and listening to the song a thousand times since 1965...... 8)

Gee,

I was just listening to your version of The Byrds' "If You're Gone" for the umpteenth time, and you really get some serious jangle out of your 360/12. Did you ever try one of the JangleBox compressors before you settled on the DOD MilkBox?

I bought the Milkbox, and stuck with it...it works really well on live gigs....
