Riverdog Samson

Post by pekka »

The band I'm in released its second album yesterday and while this is a Rickenbacker forum here's one song featuring my 1991 4003. Recorded with the neck pickup a notch down, treble pickup full on and through Hiwatt DR103 w/EV 15" and Lab Series L2 w/EBSCL112. There's also a 12-string bass playing powerchords during the end section but that's another story.

The whole album:

Also on Spotify and iTunes etc. And while we're at it, here's a video of one instrumental. I used a Telecaster bass on it (P-bass for the middle section).

Pekka: I just love "North" It has classic thundering bass, outstanding vocals and absolutely killer harmonies. Thanks so much for sharing your music here!
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

I have only listened to the one song, so far, Pekka, but it sounds really great with some nice twists to it. :D Wonderful tone out of the Rick and your playing. Was the band, or a member of it, the producer for the studio sessions of the music? If not, amazing he/she didn't want you to use a P Bass to make the bass "fit in" like most every other band on the planet.

Thanks! The album was co-produced by our guitarist and the band. I used a lots of basses on it (including the P-bass which is featured on the track "The Eraser" and in the middle part of "Faces") and there's hardly a "straight" bass sound on the album. No DI at all, actually, all the sound is mic'ed from the cabs.

I recall when tracking "North" the guitarist said that the sound could work on every song if necessary. :) Different basses make me play differently and I have always loved albums which have different bass sounds on every song (for example Yes or Cheap Trick).

I just finished listening to Rolling. Outstanding vocals and scintillating guitar. I have to believe that someone in the group likes the Byrds, CSN or at the very least David Crosby. It is easy to get swept away on this gorgeous tune.

Yes, I like all of those and the singer/guitarist is a big CSN and Crosby fan too. Originally when I demoed the song it had a Field Music feel but then it got slowed down and turned into the one it is today.
