I'm a sucker for sweet '70s bass lines. I was listening to some Ray Conniff today (yes, I know, his music is just about as vanilla as can be) and came across his version of Peter Cetera's, I mean, Chicago's "If You Leave Me Now."
No matter what you think about the song, Conniff's arrangements or his singers, you have to admit that the bass line is killer. It's not too flashy, supports the song and is up front and center, which I love. I would really like to know who the A&M studio musician was and which brand of bass he used for this recording. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I think the bass has a Ric quality to it. What do y'all think?
(By the way, the slideshow is lame)

“'What was that note?' I told him it was a B natural, the third of G dominant 7 going back to C minor, and I can't talk while I'm playing so don't ask me any more questions." - Ron Carter to Miles Davis

"The ladies LOVE Cetera"!
