I'd prefer a stereo cable that runs on for longer, or a Y-splitting cable that runs longer than such a short splitting thing - one would have to drag around two standard cables, which to me seems a bit unpractical.

Got cha. Even if you run it to a split box, you still need two mono cables or 1 stereo cable and a stereo amp. If you have two mono amps you have to split the Ric-O-Sound somewhere. I would rather pay $5 bucks for a Y splitter, but that is just me. Good Luck.
