I really have to "chime" in and agree with CJ and Kira. I realized long ago that in analyzing my playing, the jobs of most pro and amateur musicians were very secure. I wasn't about to burn the world up with my musical prowess. So I just started playing what I wanted or what I knew and had fun. I have very slowly started chipping away at new things over the years or have tried to re-learn what I have long forgotten. But when it stops being fun, I go back to the fun stuff.
Get GarageBand out and make up your own song. Then play along with it. Play however and whatever you like. Sooner or later things will start to click and you'll be having fun and some not too stressful challenges strumming away. Just go for it. Play for yourself. 8)
