My relatives used to make clothes from potato sacks during the great depression. Here's a picture of Marilyn Monroe in a potato sack dress. I'd like to have a suit and tie made from potato sacks.

Actually, flour sack dresses were more common. As money became tight during the depression, but folks still had to purchase flour, the flour companies started printing their flour sacks in colors and patterns so the families could make clothes. My folks were lucky in that they had a large enough dairy farm to get by, but I still have several dish towels, small table covers, etc., made out of the flour sacks.

I’ve read this before, and it always struck me as a rare act of quiet kindness and compassion from big business. It’s not like the printed material said their brand name anywhere either, they honestly just wanted to help people.

Big business was quite different back then.

Not trying to be flippant, but this relates to potato sack clothing how? As much as we all love the tone of vacuum tube amps, this could be a new thread about the overall manufacture of tubes, which ones are good, which are not, etc.

I've got a list of Telefunken patents if you want to see those.
